Fabulous Overtones EP

I guess this was my first Professional Recording Session. It wasn't really that professional; I think it was an 8-track rigged up in someones house. But it was a great experience for me and I felt right at home. Ray Baillergeon - vocals, Mike Boyer - Drums, James Hartley - Guitar, we had two different bass players and I can't remember their names right now, also Jody Galic was a sax player with us for awhile. Larry Ayre was also the original guitar player. See the Overtones Bootleg for more notes on the origins of the band. This picture was proudly displayed for many years at The Bagel Deli among many famous Hollywood stars that had dined there. For starving artists a bowl of Benny's soup with bread was a big meal for the day. We often met there as did many of my friends for Sunday brunch after a late night gig. People loved the dis-service you got there. Long before the 'Soup Nazi' the waitresses at the Bagel didn't take kindly to people giving them orders. Once a Jap (Jewish American Princess) with lots of 'special requests' was taken aback when the waitress answered. 'Who do you think you are? The Queen of Sheba? Im too busy for this, go somewhere else'. Benny who owned the restaurant and stood in the front cooking, would just shrug his shoulders. The waitresses really ran the place, he just cooked the eggs and onions. Once there was a famous Canadian poet (I forget his name), who wrote Anti-Semitic slurs in his poetry. My dear friend Sara Spraklin who was a poet/punk/singer-songwriter came over to his table and said. 'What are you doing eating in a 'Jew' restaurant?' If you hate the Jews you shouldn't eat in their restaurants, why don't you leave? His face turned red and he soon left. She was a one woman JDL (Jewish Defense League).
